Although Portugal has a few all-inclusive options, we generally do not recommend them. Portugal is not the kind of place to stay at a resort and never leave! If you want that, Cancun, Jamaica, or St. Lucia are far better options.

Families who want an all-in-one experience often choose resorts, especially when traveling with younger kids. Martinhal Sagres Beach Family Resort is one of the most popular family resorts in the Algarve, offering kids’ clubs, family villas, multiple pools, and direct beach access. It’s a great option if you want space, kid-focused amenities, and very little planning once you arrive.

Another strong resort option is Pine Cliffs Resort, located near Albufeira. This resort works well for families with older kids and teens thanks to its multiple restaurants, beach access, golf course, and kids’ activities. It also offers apartment-style accommodations, which are helpful for longer stays.

If you prefer apartment-style hotels with more flexibility, Vila Galé Lagos is a solid choice for families. The rooms are spacious, the property has family-friendly pools, and it’s close to Meia Praia, one of the Algarve’s most family-friendly beaches. Getting Around the Algarve With Kids

While public transportation is fantastic in most of Portugal, renting a car is the easiest way to explore with kids. It’s not required, but it might make your trip easier if you prefer to go at your own pace. Just keep in mind that there will be tolls.

Car seats are required in Portugal for kids under 135 cm (about 53 inches), so plan ahead when booking your rental. We always take a car seat. You can either take one on the plane, gate check it (use a bag!), or rent a car seat once you arrive.
