If you plan to briefly explore Lisbon and then head to other parts of Portugal, like the Algarve or Porto. This Lisbon itinerary for families is for you!

Here’s how to spend 3 days in Lisbon with kids. This 3-day Lisbon itinerary doesn’t even come close to all the things to do in Lisbon with kids, but it does have some of the highlights. Check out our longer itineraries for even more ideas.

Day 1: Explore Central Lisbon

Start your trip in central Lisbon, focusing on areas that are easy to walk and don’t require too much backtracking. Begin in Baixa, Lisbon’s flat downtown district, where wide sidewalks and open plazas make it one of the most family-friendly parts of the city. Praça do Comércio is a great first stop, giving kids space to move around while you enjoy views of the Tagus River.

After exploring the riverfront, wander through Baixa toward Chiado, stopping for a short tram ride along the way. You don’t need to ride the famous Tram 28 end to end to enjoy the experience; shorter rides still give kids the novelty without the crowds. Plan for a relaxed lunch nearby, followed by a visit to the Santa Justa Lift or one of the nearby viewpoints for city views without a long climb.

Keep the evening simple with an early dinner near your hotel and an optional sunset walk along the river. This lighter day works especially well if you’re adjusting to jet lag or traveling with younger kids.

Where to stay: Baixa and Chiado are excellent areas for families due to their central location and flat terrain. Hotel da Baixa is a great family-friendly option with spacious rooms and easy access to Lisbon’s main sights.

Day 2: Lisbon Oceanarium + Parque das Nações

Day two is all about giving kids something they’ll truly love, and the Lisbon Oceanarium delivers. Head to Parque das Nações in the morning and plan to spend at least two to three hours at the aquarium. It’s one of the best aquariums in Europe and works well for all ages.

After your visit, stay in the area for lunch, where you’ll find plenty of casual restaurants that are easy with kids. In the afternoon, take a ride on the cable car along the river for great views and a fun break from walking. Parque das Nações is flat, modern, and open, making it a refreshing contrast to Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods and a great place for kids to burn off energy.

Return to central Lisbon for a relaxed dinner near your accommodations and an early night after a full day.

Where to stay: If you prefer a quieter, more modern area, Parque das Nações is a great choice. Martinhal Lisbon Oriente is especially popular with families, offering family rooms, kid-focused amenities, and easy access to the Oceanarium and metro.

Day 3: Belem + Historic Lisbon

On your final day, head west to Belém, home to some of Lisbon’s most iconic sights. Start by walking around the Jerónimos Monastery and along the river toward Belém Tower, keeping things mostly outdoors and flexible. These sights are impressive without requiring long museum visits, which helps keep kids engaged. If your kids love museums, take as long as you’d like!

After exploring, stop at Pastéis de Belém for the famous custard tarts before enjoying lunch nearby. If your family still has energy, walk along the river or stop by the exterior of the MAAT museum, which often feels more like a scenic break than a formal attraction.

In the evening, return to central Lisbon for your final dinner and consider ending the trip at a miradouro for sunset views over the city. It’s a calm, memorable way to wrap up your time in Lisbon.
